Critical Role Season Four Introduces the Fighters Party

From the very beginning of Campaign 4, fresh DM the talented storyteller has kept viewers on edge with rich lore, a colorful mix of characters, and a exciting storyline featuring divine entities, fiends, and dark forces increasing in power within the urban setting.

Note: Key plot points for the third episode of Campaign 4 lie ahead.

The Soldiers Table Revealed

The third episode finished on a huge suspense moment and introduced the initial group of heroes who will branch out from the main group to undertake their own adventure, apart from the remaining groups.

The Soldiers table consists of Teor Pridesire (portrayed by Travis Willingham), Thimble (Laura Bailey), the fierce warrior (the cast member), Wicander Halovar (Sam Riegel), and Kattigan (Robbie).

Why Split the Party?

Given a large ensemble, it was evident from the beginning that having everyone at the same party would be impossible.

This explains, the initial installments of the new season serve as an Overture, connecting the characters’ stories before splitting into three distinct groups: Warriors, Schemers, and Explorers.

What Defines the Combat Party

According to Brennan Lee Mulligan, the warrior group is for players who enjoy a typically action-packed battle-oriented gameplay experience where diplomatic options are few and far between.

At first glance, figures such as the reluctant priest Wicander might look out of place, but the developments of the third episode show why these five characters are perfectly fit for the warrior group.

Why They Must Go

First, the party knows exactly where to head next after a intense initial meeting with the enemy group.

A former ally of the deceased character—whose death started the story’s plot—exploited the foes for his own means, invading the hidden lair, assaulting the character, and swiping all the powerful objects to auction.

Casimir then cleared his liabilities and fled to a Halovar stronghouse in the remote area, beyond the city, with Cyd hot on his heels.

Personal Motivations

Additionally, each adventurer has a specific drive to exit the metropolitan area:

  • Thimble, as Thjazi’s partner and trusted friend, wants vengeance.
  • The adventurer has experience in the region and advises that it is a dangerous environment.
  • Tyranny and The cleric, having defied his relatives’ demands to eliminate the fighter and instead freed him, have nowhere else to go.
  • However, their reputation as prominent individuals in House Halovar could assist the party reach locations they normally couldn’t.
  • Moreover, The fighter swore a life debt to The savior for his rescue and will now accompany him everywhere.

Pursued by Authorities

Finally, all of them are hunted by the rulers that control Dol-Makjar for a variety of reasons, making staying in the city too risky:

  • The agile adventurer and Kattigan are notorious outlaws.
  • Tyranny and The cleric defied the influential house and the horde of evil beings they are aligned with.
  • The target is marked for death by the clan.

This results in them few options but to head to the remote area in pursuit of the traitor.

Upcoming Developments

Based on the latest episode’s post-show segment, we discover that the warrior group will be absent the following episode, leaving the other eight cast members to round up the Questers and Strategists tables.

Fans can look forward to finding out which characters will be in which group in Campaign 4’s last Overture episode, available to watch on next week.
