The highly-awaited Season 2 of the musical adult cartoon Hazbin Hotel launches on Prime Video this week, and audience theories has been intense.
Season 1 presents a diverse group of personalities living within Hell and Heaven, sets them at odds with songs detailing their conflicts, and builds tense rivalries and angsty, affectionate connections that fuel fan obsession.
The fandom's stated hopes for season 2 differ greatly, but certain threads recur frequently: Could a fan-favorite character escape his tormentor? Will we find out more about the binding agreement constraining the enigmatic Alastor? Will [favorite character] and [other character] finally get together?
"Naturally, I don't produce the show with audience demands as the main goal," the showrunner stated recently. "But I feel like me being a fan of my own show means there's a lot of it just naturally. I also am eager for these things, and I hope some of these things to occur, and obviously some of these things are meant to happen in the show!"
The creator says her big-picture plan is for a five-season run of Hazbin Hotel. Future installments have already been green-lit by Prime Video and A24, which produce the series.
That might mean fans have to wait years for some of the major resolutions — but they could be shocked at how quickly season 2 moves, and how many of what they're waiting for unfolds now.
"I feel like people are going to get a lot out of it," the creator notes. "There are several debut moments. I think we receive some incredible reveals, some really cool origin tales, and even just simple things, [like] I hope this character gets a song. […] We're going to hear additional musical numbers from the previously silent cast members."
She's certainly aware of the theories and desires about season 2 — particularly in the form of audience prediction charts.
"I've come across a couple people create a bingo card about season 2," she mentions. "Naturally I won't share it, but I've actually done a few items, and nearly every one of them have almost a bingo. I thought, Oh, if you put this [event] in this spot, it would be a bingo. So that leads me to believe we do a lot [of what fans are waiting for in this season], because I realized, Oh, there's multiple potential bingos on this card. So that makes me happy."
Hazbin Hotel the second season launches on the streaming service on October 29.
